Over 7 million visitors in 2017 in the Colosseum !!! An all time record!!!
Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said that in 2017 Italy's museums and monuments had their "golden year", drawing a record 50 million visitors and generating almost 200 million euros of revenue. "It's the best result ever in our country's history, an all-time record for Italian museums " Franceschini said.
Visitors to Italian museums have increased by 5 million over 2016 and climbed 20 million Euro over the last year alone.
The top attractions in 2017 included Rome's Colosseum (visited by over 7 million people) and the ancient Roman city of Pompeii (3.3 million).
Actually, the most visited Roman monument is the Pantheon, but there the entrance is free, therefore it does not appear in the statistics of museums revenues.
